Waymo Launches Autonomous Airport Ride Services

Live Poll

Would you feel comfortable using an autonomous ride-hailing service to travel to the airport?

Local users can now hail Waymo autonomous vehicles for trips to and from Harry Reid International Airport. The company, a subsidiary of Alphabet, launched the service at the airport's Ground Zero Level following recent regulatory approval.

Why it matters

The expansion brings another autonomous transit option to the valley as regional authorities continue to integrate self-driving vehicles into airport operations. Passengers now have two competing robotaxi services to choose from at the terminals.

Waymo is now the second autonomous ride-hailing service cleared for airport access alongside Zoox. The initial operational area for the service covers 24 square miles across the valley.

The players

Waymo

An Alphabet subsidiary that operates an autonomous ride-hailing service in the Las Vegas valley.

Zoox

An autonomous ride-hailing service that previously secured clearance to operate at Harry Reid International Airport.

Nevada Transportation Authority

The state body that voted to allow fare collection for autonomous ride-hailing services.

Clark County Department of Aviation

The department that grants the required approval for autonomous vehicle access at the airport.

The details

Vehicles are now picking up and dropping off passengers at the dedicated autonomous vehicle zone on Ground Zero Level at the airport terminals. This follows a vote in August by Nevada Transportation Authority commissioners allowing the company to charge fares. The service is available to current users within the existing footprint, which includes the resort corridor and Chinatown.

Timeline

  1. August 2026: Nevada Transportation Authority commissioners voted to allow fare collection.

  2. September 2026: Waymo launched public service in the Las Vegas valley.

  3. October 21, 2026: Airport ride-hailing services officially commenced.

Beyond the Strip

This launch follows the regulatory precedent set by Zoox, which was the first service to secure airport access. Waymo's arrival at the terminal marks a second expansion of autonomous ride-hailing within the valley's infrastructure.

If you are a current Waymo user, you can now request rides to or from the airport directly through the app. You will need to meet your vehicle at the dedicated autonomous zone located on Ground Zero Level.

The takeaway

Travelers and locals can now use Waymo for airport transit alongside the previously available Zoox service. Keep an eye on your ride-hailing app for specific pickup instructions at the Ground Zero Level zone.
