Should community members contribute funds to help local youth sports teams travel to national tournaments?
The Las Vegas Rebels 8U football team is preparing for a national championship tournament in Florida scheduled for the first weekend of December. After remaining undefeated throughout the current season, the young squad is now fundraising to cover travel, lodging, and meal costs for the group.
Why it matters
The team is aiming for a national title after a previous trip to the tournament ended in disqualification due to a clerical roster error involving a dual-rostered player. Securing the necessary funds remains the primary hurdle for the 19 players and their parents before the kickoff.
The team previously incurred $100,000 in expenses for a 19-player roster trip. It is currently unknown how much of that total will be required for the upcoming December tournament.
